Storage tips to make thing a little easier
- Pack heavy items into smaller boxes.
- This will make them easier to carry.
- Pack the least used items into the storage unit first.
- Store appliances with their doors slightly ajar.
- Clean objects and dry out fridges, washing machines and freezers before packing.
- Place frequently used items near the entrance.
- Store paperwork in lidded plastic containers.
- When storing furniture, it may be worthwhile disassembling some to save space.
- Store sofas and mattresses on end.
- Cover furniture with dust sheets.
- Keep upholstery off the floor.
- Clean all clothes and tools before storing to prevent moulding.
- Drain all vehicles of oil and petrol.
- Strengthen mirrors by creating an ‘x’ on the glass with masking tape, then store flat.
- Store washing machines, fridges and freezers with doors ajar.
- Open the doors of your unit regularly and store large items with small gaps between, to help ventilation and air circulation.
- Fill boxes to capacity. Boxes will give way if they are not full and will collapse if they are bulging.
